The Marconi Bike Path, which has been under review by various state and federal entities for six years, is about to become a reality. Despite numerous bureaucratic setbacks, the construction team broke ground on the path in December.
The path will run through City Park, intersecting with other bike trails along Wisner and Robert E. Lee boulevards. It will also connect with the Harrison Avenue trail at certain points.
Barring any additional requests at the state or federal level, park officials expect to open the bike path by spring of 2017, creating a safer environment for both cyclists and drivers.
