Zip code woes: Which neighborhood pays the most for auto insurance?

As part of WWL-TV’s ongoing “VERIFY” series, reporter Danny Monteverde uncovered that Marigny, Bywater and Lower Ninth Ward residents shell out more for auto insurance than anyone else in New Orleans, paying the third-highest premiums in the nation.

According to Michelle Megna, managing editor of CarInsurance.com, location is the first thing insurance companies look at when setting rates. Providers determine the risk level of an area based on past claims, theft and vandalism.

So, before you pick your next NOLA neighborhood, check your rates and make sure you get one that will make your car happy, too!
