Mardi Gras is my favorite time of year – not just because it’s Mardi Gras, but because my South Carolina grandchildren have been coming to Carnival since birth.
Now that they’re in second and fourth grades, it’s not easy to miss school, so their trip this year is just a long weekend – but with an important mission. When they return to school on Valentine’s Day, they’ll spread the love to their classmates, not with traditional hearts but with stuffies, beads, throws and king cakes.
“Throw me something, Mister” will be alive and well at St. Mary’s School in Greenville, South Carolina.
