Less than 3% of teachers in the classroom are Black men. So, when Larry Irvin Jr. founded Brothers Empowered to Teach (BE2T) in 2014, he envisioned a world in which the demographics of educators reflect those of the students they serve.
BE2T is generating a pipeline of teachers by preparing Black men for classroom-based careers through early exposure to teaching and mentorship.
We have three approaches to achieving our mission: a three-year Pre-Teaching Fellowship for college students, a one-year Change Track program for graduates and career changers, and efforts to change policy and practice through engagement with stakeholders and policymakers.
