When I was little, I remember visiting my great-grandparents on Lakeshore Drive in Mandeville. A highlight was their children’s playhouse, sitting demurely among the moss-filled oaks.
Years later, my appreciation for the Northshore was Happy Knoll. Owned by five families of sailors, including my parents, the house was built from slave cabins, and was museum-like, with pirogues, buoys and all things maritime. Tragically, it burned down after Katrina.
My love for the Northshore continues today. Gambel’s satellite office offers a slice of life that’s perfect for podcasts on the Causeway, blue-sky thinking and a fresh perspective.
