Homelessness is heartbreaking, with one local nonprofit establishing itself as a leader in breaking the cycle and giving the gift of home to families. In its 16-year history, the New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter (NOWCS) has helped launch more than 4,300 people toward self-sufficiency, including 2,000 children.
It is the only homeless shelter for intact families, including fathers and boys, and the largest homeless shelter for families and children in the metro area. NOWCS has a remarkable 98% success rate. This is attributed to coordinated, family-centered support and services.
