What is HMIS? The Homeless Management Information System, or HMIS, is a secure online database that enables organizations to collect client-level, systemwide information on the services provided to people experiencing homelessness and also those who are at risk of homelessness.
Communities use this data to improve the ability of governing agencies, service providers, volunteers and external stakeholders to provide access to resources and housing. One feature of HMIS is an inventory of shelter beds and housing options that are available. Our VIA LINK/HMIS staff collects information at shelters each night, and this data allows us to provide services more effectively.
