The storms of 2020

Hurricane Zeta stormed New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast leaving a wake of devastation, including Betsie Gambel’s beach house’s 500-year-old oak tree, which was ravaged but thankfully remains strong.

Thankfully hurricane season is nearly over, and with Zeta causing massive destruction in both New Orleans and the Mississippi Coast, I experienced a double whammy.

The seven named hurricanes in the Gulf this year are woeful additions to the other “storms” of 2020: the COVID-19 crisis and a polarizing election season. The destruction in 2020 physically, economically and emotionally seems unparalleled.

As difficult as this year has been, the blessings of families and friends abound. My Thanksgiving prayer is for all who give selflessly and lovingly, especially in times of need. Let us come together as families, friends and communities in thanks.
